May 2025, Winchester Chalk streams to Vintage railways at Alresford, a relaxing weekend with a touch of Pink Floyd
During the year leading up to this point, we had researched and visited showrooms and converters, from Minehead to Shrewsbury and quite a few in between. So now we had to make up our minds, realizing that this was probably the last chance to get the van type we wanted, or we would be waiting for the new "7" series or even heading into the Ford and Renault alternative universe.
Then we met the team from Jerba. We knew about them from our research but had dismissed them initially only because North Berwick is a long, long way from home. After spending an amazing week traveling around Scotland on coaches and trains of all types just a few weeks before the show, distances didn't seem to matter anymore. And so a deposit was paid on the dark Starlight Blue (as he was then) van which they would transform into a Sanna.Initially calling him North Star and dreaming of amazing custom paint jobs based on a star and compass theme, we shortened the name to Star. Various family members came up with alternatives, including an unsurprising "Vanny McVan Face" but Star it was and Star it is.
On a very cold and snowy late November afternoon, we met the team from Jerba at North Berwick to finalize the spec for Star, visit their workshops, and say hello to the van for the first time.Time flew by, and in an equally cold but this time very wet February, we picked up the keys, had a few adjustments made on the spot (Jerba are the best!), and headed off for our first 2 nights with Star under the stars (well, clouds actually and blowing a hooley!).
