☁️ Jurassic Jaunt: Fossils, Dolphins & a Dash of Stardust
The clouds may have rolled in, but they couldn’t dampen our spirits as we packed up for yet another pilgrimage to the magical stretch of coast we just can’t quit—the Jurassic Coast. This time, we anchored ourselves in the sleepy village of Up Lyme, nestled cosily up the Lim River from its more famous sibling, Lyme Regis.
Boots on, tea flasks filled, we wandered through sepia-toned fields and over timeworn trails toward the old rail viaduct at Cannington. There's something about stomping through history with muddy soles that makes tea taste better. Fossil fever hit again at Charmouth beach—eyes scanning the shingle like treasure hunters, half expecting a plesiosaur to peek out from behind a rock.
Then came the moment that turned our afternoon tea into a full-blown spectacle: a dolphin, with impeccable timing and zero stage fright, decided to put on a show in the bay. Our cake barely stood a chance against that kind of excitement.
🌌 But the true encore came at night. Two perfectly clear nights transformed our Dark Sky campsite into an interstellar cinema. We lay back, heads tilted skyward as the Milky Way stitched itself across the night, satellites zipped by like cosmic commuters, and shooting stars flared and faded with whispered wishes.
The way back was a scenic smorgasbord—Chesil Beach, Portland, and Weymouth offered their own salty charm before we reluctantly pointed our wheels inland. But I’d bet my last fossil we’ll be back soon. Some places just have a way of pulling you in—clouds or sunshine, dolphin or drizzle.
